Stainless-steel machining products have good chemical, acid and alkali, and corrosion resistance, widely used in light electric acid tank equipment parts. Corrosion-resistant stainless steel can also be welded for surface treatment, often used in highly corrosive gas and liquid semiconductor processes. It is also used for vacuum parts. Due to the addition of molybdenum, SUS316 / SUS316L stainless steel corrosion resistance is particularly good, so it is often used in the chemical and biotechnical industries and in food grade processing materials. The general processing precision is up to 0.01mm (special requirements can be discussed).
Common Stainless Steel Application
- SUS303: A kind of easy-cutting stainless steel used when there is no need for high corrosion resistance.
- SUS304: The most widely used stainless steel for production equipment in the semiconductor, optoelectronic and biotechnology industries. Containing 18% chromium and 8% nickel (18-8), it is characterized by good formability and acid corrosion resistance, and is widely used in industrial applications (stainless steel of Japanese No. 304 = European and American No. 18-8)
- SUS316: Corrosion and chemical resistance better than that of SUS304, often used in strong acids, strong alkalis, and pharmaceutical production processes.
- SUS316L: Carbon content lower than that of SUS316, with excellent resistance to intergranular corrosion.
- SUS430: Commonly used in fuel burner parts, household appliances and parts. Containing 18% chromium but no nickel, it is mainly used in parts requiring high hardness and wear resistance, such as cutting tools, bearings, springs and medical instruments.
- SUS440C: Has the highest hardness of all stainless steels and heat-resistant steels. Used for nozzles and bearings.
- SUS630: Corrosion resistance similar with SUS304, but simple in heat treatment, used to manufacture parts and components of high corrosion resistance and high strength, such as bearings and turbine parts.
Material Properties
Stainless steel is commonly known as white iron, and usually contains alloy elements such as nickel, chromium, molybdenum or tungsten. The surface has a layer of skin film so it's not easy to oxidize. Stainless steel is roughly divided into 200 series, 300 series, 400 series, 500 series and 600 series. The semiconductor and photoelectric industries commonly use stainless steel SUS303, SUS304, SUS316, SUS316L, SUS430, SUS440B, and SUS630 in different materials depending on the environment in which it's used.
